7 Ways to Give Your Bathroom the Spa Treatment it Deserves

Sprucing up your bathroom with spa options is another great way to add value to your home. Many people who are considering a bathroom remodel look over spa fixtures and aesthetic because they are intimated by the cost. While some options may impact the overall cost of the remodel, there are lots of ways you can install a spa oasis without breaking the bank and add that extra touch that provides you with a luxurious feeling that we deserve after a hard day’s work.

Take the next step in your bathing experience and consider these options for your bathroom remodel.

1. Lighting

Having the right type of lighting is crucial for the atmosphere of any spa. White light is perfect for waking you up in the morning during your usual routine but when you want to kick back and relax that lighting maybe to energizing versus providing you with a more calming effect.

Once you make the decision to upgrade the bathroom adding the right lighting options is easy to do. Consider installing unique light fixtures and a dimmer switch so you have absolute control of the vibes in your bathroom.

Another way to control the lighting in your bathroom is to utilize draw shades on the windows. Not only will it provide additional privacy but also give you the ability to let in natural light.

2. Show Off Your Sink with Additional Storage

Having a spa atmosphere is supposed to be relaxing and help you relieve stress. We all have different morning routines which can amount to lots of toiletries. When your bathroom is overly cluttered it is going to be harder to feel at peace.

When preparing for a bathroom remodel take the opportunity to plan out where you would like storage for ease of access and what you need more frequently and less frequently. Plus, this is a great time to consider adding storage so your items are well organized…this may allow you to linger just a bit longer in the shower or jet-tub in the morning!

If you are running low on space consider decorating with your toiletries. Find different ways to display them with jars and soap dispensers. You will notice a huge difference when the countertops are shiny and the sink is clean.

Another aspect of a cluttered bathroom is clean and used towel storage. Contemplate how you and your family handle towel usage…do the towel get rehung to dry daily or does your family use a clean towel with each shower or bath? Finally, when towels are ready for the laundry, where would you LIKE the wash clothes and towels to be placed?

3. Shower and Bathtub

If you are considering a bathroom remodel, chances are you will be replacing the shower or bathtub. There are so many awesome choices for showers and bathtubs to provide a daily mini spa experience. Get creative because a new shower/bathtub is a crucial component for your spa.

Here are a few ideas we think would go great in a spa bathroom:

  • Steam Shower
  • Sauna
  • Dual/Multiple Shower Heads
  • Deep Stand Alone Bathtub
  • Detachable Shower Head
  • Rain or Waterfall Shower Heads
  • Jetted Tub
  • Cut Out Wall Storage
  • Tub & Shower Access
  • Heated Towel Bars
  • etc.

4. Color Scheme

The colors you choose for your newly renovated bathroom will have a major impact on the feel. Since most people react to colors differently, consider how it will fit with the rest of your home and ask the Bulski Team what they would suggest.

When considering what colors to use, neutrals and earth tones are the most common choices when trying to recreate a spa environment. These types of colors look great and add a modern touch to the bathroom. Think about what color palette will work best for you, be fresh and provide the ambiance you are trying to create in your new bathroom. Additionally, neutral and earth tones give the room a naturalistic look that comes to life in low lighting situations. Avoid using colors like red or yellow while they are eye-catching and can become a distraction. We suggest using neutral earth tones so they look beautiful without taking the attention away from your relaxation.

5. Foliage

Plants and flowers are a must for an at-home spa. They have calming benefits and some even give off a pleasant aroma while keeping the air fresh. This is your chance to explore all of the different types of plants and incorporate them into your decor.

Surprisingly, there are even plants that thrive in the bathroom area because of the excess moisture—making it easier to care for them. Here are a few plants that are known to adapt to the bathroom as their habitat:

  • Orchids
  • Bamboo
  • Eucalyptus
  • Ferns
  • Devils Ivy
  • and more!

Plants are the perfect touch to give it a real spa look and feel. It is your chance to become one with nature and forget about everything outside of your bathroom door.

6. Candles/ Scents

Not only do candles provide great lighting for spas but they also contribute to the relaxing smells in the bathroom. We all react to smells and certain scents can even bring back memories from when you first encountered it. With candles, you have the power to spark that smell at any time and have the flicker of the wick add to the calming effects of your spa.

As long as they are placed in a safe space, you should consider getting multiple candles in your bathroom. This will help the candles last longer and let you use them as decoration. Depending on the type of candles you purchase—you might want to peel off the label so they fit with your bathrooms interior design.

7. Music

The last thing we recommend to add to your spa is a way to play music in your bathroom. This can be in the form of a small portable speaker or even speakers installed into your walls. As we all know, technology does not like moisture so it is important to take the time to find an option that will not short out or electrocute you during your meditation time.

No matter the device you use to play your relaxing tunes, be sure it is a safe option. Talk with your remodeler and see if they have experience with installing speakers into bathrooms or have any recommendations. That way you can listen to your whale songs in peace without destroying your phone, speaker, or causing you an electric shock. OUCH!
